Tom Brady has made it clear that any hurt feelings or bitterness over Deflategate have been left in the past with a new commercial for Foot Locker in which he jokingly makes reference to the years-long scandal.

The new spot clearly alludes to the Deflategate controversy but never specifically mentions it. Brady was asked this week what motivated him to make light of such a scandal, one that ultimately left suspended for the first four games of the season.

“I don’t exactly know what was going through my mind when I made the decision,” Brady said, via the San Francisco Chronicle.

ちびまる子ちゃん The commercial, which has already been viewed over 700,000 times on Foot Locker’s official YouTube channel in only a few days — features two guys sitting down at a diner counter while discussing Foot Locker’s “Week of Greatness,” the annual event when the company releases shoes for the holiday season.

“How is it possible that it keeps getting better even after all these years?” one customer asks.

“Kind of makes you wonder what Foot Locker is up to,” the other says.

Enter Brady, 39, who is visibly irritated at the suggestion the company is up to something illegal: “That’s an unfortunate mindset you’ve got there. Just because something’s great year after year doesn’t mean anything’s going on. Why can’t some things just be great?”

Brady continues: “It starts with questions. And then questions turn into assumptions and assumptions turn into vacations. So why would you punish the ‘Week of Greatness’ for something that never even happened?”

Brady noted the commercial was filmed during his Deflategate suspension, which sat him the season’s first four games.

“I had a lot of free time on my hands at the beginning of the year,” he said, “so I had to find ways to fill it.”

One has to wonder how Roger Goodell feels about Brady poking fun at what the NFL asserted was such a serious issue. In all likelihood, the Commish probably isn’t as amused as everyone else.
